Scholarship Guidelines
IPTG Scholarship Audition Rules
- Each teacher may enter no more than 8 eligible students who have each appeared in a Guild
Cooperative Recital during the current season.
- Prior year first-prize winners may re-enter only in a higher category.
- Audition fee will be $10.00. The fee is non-refundable.
- Auditions times will be assigned prior to the contest. Contestants will be expected
to perform at the scheduled time.
- Performers are allowed a very brief warm-up time (scale, arpeggio, etc.) immediately
before the performance.
- Performers in Grades K-4 are required to play two memorized pieces in contrasting styles.
They will be allowed 6 minutes per performance.
- Performers in Grades 5-8 are required to play two memorized pieces in contrasting styles.
They will be allowed 9 minutes per performance.
- Performers in Grades 9-12 must play two memorized pieces from different style periods
(Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern). They will be allowed 12 minutes per performance.
- Students must bring copies of the music they perform. No photocopies permitted. If
students forget their music, they may perform and be evaluated, but they forfeit their ability
to be considered for prizes or honorable mentions.
- Due to limited space, parents may not be present at the auditions held in private homes.
The Forum and Munger Hall are open to the public. This includes grades 5-12.
- Addresses for the locations will be provided by the teacher. Please use Mapquest or
Google Maps to find directions. To find the correct building at the Forum, take the first left
turn when coming from 86th street.
- The Guild members hosting auditions will notify the teachers of the winning students
immediately following the judges’ decisions. If the teacher is unavailable, the host will
call the winning student. Hosts will notify the chairperson.
- Judges will be urged to consider performance quality over level of difficulty.
- Judges will be given a minimum of $100.00 for an honorarium. Auditions that last
longer than two and one half hours will be considered for a higher honorarium.
- If the two pieces chosen for an audition appear that they will take longer than
the allotted time, the judge will have the student play only part of the piece(s).
- When 12 or more contestants enter one category, 2 honorable mentions will be awarded.
There will be no ties. All prizes will be awarded. JUDGES DECISIONS ARE FINAL.

- Plaques will be awarded for Grades 7-8 as Gigax memorial, 9-10 as Allen memorial and 11-12 as
Gilkinson memorial winners.
