October 3, Saturday 9 am (Note different day & time)
in collaboration with the Indianapolis Piano Teacher's Association Program: Robert Vandall will be the clinician for an all day event. There will be three workshops in the morning: 1. "Memorizing - It Takes More Than Muscles." 2. "Making Music: Helping a Student Really Make a Piece Come Alive!" and "Playing Scales Fast." In the afternoon there will be two masterclasses, along with a time to meet the composer. Masterclasses will be for late elementary to late intermediate students and will include mostly Mr. Vandall's pieces with perhaps a few by other composers.

November 9, Monday
Program: DVD presentation of "Freeing the Caged Bird" by Barbara Lister Sink. We will watch portions of this video that promote developing well-coordinated, injury-preventive piano technique.

January 11, 2010 Monday
Program: Marge Lucas, who is coauthoring a book on neurology, piano, and theory with a neurologist and theory professor, and has done research in the area of autism and asperger syndrome, will present ideas and insights on how to work with these types of students.

February 5, 2010 Friday 10:30 am with the IPTA at Piano Solutions
Program: Liz Seidel will present a workshop on "Teaching Technique in the Studio" It's All About the Wrist!" an approach whereby using the wrist from elementary methods through advanced technical etudes yields the freedom of motion necessary for weight distribution, linear energy and depth of sound.

April 12, 2010 Monday
Program: "I'm Too Busy to Continue Piano Lessons: How Service Learning Can Retain Students." Dr. Claudia Bossard, Franklin College Professor.
Service-Learning is a teaching methodology that links community service and academic study so that each strengthens the other. Students provide a service to a community organization as part of their piano studies. By combining the musical and musicianship skills learned in their lessons with real-life experiences, servicelearning leads students to a greater understanding of these skills and helps them appreciate the value of civic engagement.

Program: Members' recital
